45 years ago today (1/14/80) Rush released Permanent Waves, their seventh studio album. “The Spirit of Radio” and “Freewill” became dominant radio hits and the first to reach the Top 5 on the US Albums chart, where they peaked at #4. The album represented a new direction for the band, with songs becoming denser and more radio-friendly, as they would release their U.S. biggest seller Moving Pictures next. Check out the album’s triumphant final track, “Natural Science,” performed live on the R40 tour.
