50 years ago today (3/7/19), Genesis released their debut LP From Genesis to Revelation. While the band yet to pave their prog sound, the sunny pop tunes originated from a collection of demos that were recorded back in 1967 while the members of Genesis were pupils of Charterhouse School in Godalming. The album would feature Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, Peter Gabriels as well as Anthony Phillips on guitar. By the time Genesis had finished recording, John Silver had replaced original drummer Chris Stewart. Phil Collins would of course not join until 1971’s Nursery Cryme, replacing John Mayhew who was the drummer on 1970’s Trespass. Steve Hackett would also go on to make his Genesis debut via Nursery Cryme. Check out “In The Beginning” off From Genesis to Revelation.
