50 years ago today (7/18/68), the Grateful Dead released their second LP Anthem of the Sun. The mix of the album combines multiple studios and live recordings of each song. The result is an experimental amalgam that is neither a studio album nor a live album, but both at the same time (though it is usually classified as a studio album. The album served as one of rock music’s earliest song cycles, although most songs fell off the band’s setlist by the early 70’s, “The Other One” prevailed as one of the band’s most during anthems.
