50 Years Ago Today – ‘The Harder The Come’ Film Gets U.S. Release (Listen To Soundtrack In Full)

50 years ago today (2/8/73), The Jamaican cult classic film The Harder They Come is released in the United States in New York City only, following its original release in Jamaica in June of 1972. Following NYC showing with little attention, the film eventually moved to the states and was popular with midnight audiences across the country. The Harder They Come also was “the first English language movie in history to require subtitles in the United States due to the thick accents. More importantly, it was the soundtrack with renowned performances by Jimmy Cliff that was the film’s true sticking point as the 12 tunes are considered a main role of popularizing reggae in the states.
