55 years ago today (1/2/70), Syd Barrett released his debut solo album. The Madcap Laughs. The Madcap Laughs was recorded over several sessions from May 1968 to August 1969, with various producers, including Peter Jenner, Malcolm Jones, and Pink Floyd bandmates Roger Waters and David Gilmour. The album features Barrett’s distinctive blend of whimsical, surreal lyrics and placed himself on a curve where if things go right, the Pink Floyd co-founder might have a solid solo career, but mental illness took Barrett on another path.
