70 years ago today (11/5/48). the late soul singer Charles Bradley was born. Known affectionately by his bandmates as the “Screaming Eagle of Soul”, Bradley rose to fame in 2011 after releasing his debut album No Time For Dreaming on the venerable funk and soul label Daptone. His struggle to make it as a soul singer was captured in the 2012 documentary Charles Bradley: Soul of America. On 9/23/17, Bradley passed away from cancer, surrounded by his family, friends and bandmates. His posthumous LP Black Velvet (due 11/9) is a celebration of his life and is destined to join Charles’ first three albums alongside the canon of essential soul records for the ages.
