Happy 70th Birthday today to Carlos Santana who was born on 7/20/47. The lead guitarist has helped redefine rock and roll set against Latin and African music and rhythms with his band Santana, while earning a handful of chart topping singles. Santana delivers a “tonal nirvana” quite unlike any other guitarist, easily identifiable as only him. Santana recorded his first album and played a legendary acid fueled Woodstock set that remains one of rock’s pinnacle sets, and Abraxas became one of the best-sounding and sounding LPs of 1970 with hits “Black Magic Woman” and “Oye Como Va.” Watch Santana’s firey performance at Tanglewood 8/18/70.
