Happy 70th Birthday Chuck Leavell (Watch Sea Level Live ’79)

Happy 70th birthday today to the great Chuck Leavell: pianist, keyboardist, and current musical director for The Rolling Stones since 1982 (following the departure of Ian Stewart). Leavell is most renowned for his work within the Southern rock realm as a member of The Allman Brothers Band following the deaths of Duane Allman and incorporating a two keyboard attack with Gregg Allman vs replacing Duane. Leavell contributed the piano solo in “Jessica,” one of rock’s all-time most recognizable solos. In addition to fronting the influential jazz-rock band Sea Level, Leavell has also toured and recorded with Eric Clapton, George Harrison, David Gilmour, and John Mayer. Watch Sea Level live in 1979 at Summerfest..
