Happy 75th Birthday to Gospel/Country Legend Don Reid of The Statler Brothers (Watch “Flowers on the Wall” Live)

Happy 75th Birthday today to vocalists Don Reid (born 6/5/45)- the lead singer of country/gospel vocal group The Statler Brothers – who were amongst the first to merge country and gospel. Along with his baritone voiced brother Harold Reid (who just passed away this April), Don provided the lead vocals next to Phil Balsley, Lew Dewitt and later Jimmy Fortune singing along. From 1964-72, The Statler Brothers sang opening act and backup singers for Johnny Cash and then later went on to release over 40 albums on their own. Here the band performs “Flowers on the Wall” live in Denmark, a song that had a rebirth thanks to its use in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction.
