Happy 75th birthday today to Tony Joe White who was born on 7/23/43. The singer-songwriter and guitarist, best known for his 1969 hit “Polk Salad Annie” and for “Rainy Night in Georgia”, which he wrote but was first made popular by Brook Benton in 1970. The legendary songwriter’s new blues-based album, Bad Mouthin’, which arrives September 28, 2018, comes straight from the swamps with its blend of classics and five White originals, including two of the first songs he wrote — just before penning his prementioned breakthrough hits.
