Happy 80th birthday today to Brazilian pianist, composer, arranger and record producer, Eumir Deodato de Almeida (born 6/22/42). Deodato has had a prolific career arranging and producing more than 500 records for acts such as Bjork and Frank Sinatra but it’s a certain electro-funked version in 1974 of “Also Sprach Zarathustra” (2001) that caught the ear of a fourpiece from Vermont who reimagined it further it one of their most endearing and danceable live tunes. That track of course won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 1974 for Deodato. Check out this spirited version…
