30 years ago today (6/23/92), a then relatively unknown NYC metal band named Helmet, led by guitarist/vocalist Page Hamilton released its second album and its major-label debut Meantime. Capitalizing on ears when metal moved from leather, banda,nas and hair spray to t-shirts, jeans and short-hair; Helmet’s fiery economical approach to metal scored them a big winner with Meantime, thanks to the popularity of “Unsung” which received plenty of MTV airplay with its recognizable grinding riff sequence.
