Happy 80th birthday to Mickey Hart who was born on 9/11/43. In 1967, Hart joined the Grateful Dead as a second drummer to Bill Kruetzmanm until February 1971 when he extricated himself from the band due to a conflict between band management and his father. He returned to the Dead in 1974 and remained with the group until their official dissolution in 1995 and has since played in numerous Dead-related bands including The Other Ones, The Dead and most recently Dead & Company till their final tour here in 2023.. Hart is a true ambassador of percussion instruments and a musicologist who has authored books and contributed immensely to the nuances of sound and rhythm. In honor of Hart’s birthday let’s watch
