30 years ago today (6/9/90), M.C. Hammer’s third record Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em started a record-breaking 21-week stay at the top of the US album charts, making it the longest uninterrupted stay at the top since the album charts started. The album also becomes just the second rap album to reach #1 in America, as Beastie Boys’ Licensed to Ill was the first.
