After years of toiling away at her albums and perfecting her sound, Sudan Archives hit a creative breakthrough with 2022’s Natural Brown Prom Queen. The album saw Archives manipulating her finger-plucking violin stylings to fit snugly into the album’s sonics that leaned on her innate skills as much as it did ambiance and silence. One of the best examples of her unique approach to song structure comes in the B-side “Homesick (Gorgeous & Arrogant)” and last night (January 16), Archives brought that song to life in an artsy appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Archives is no stranger to the late-night performance circuit and it seems like she is settling into the constraints that come with performing on shows like this. Her violin sat strapped to her shoulder, allowing her to create one electrifying moment as she unsheathed the bow to her instrument just as the lights turned red and launched into the stirring string section. Archives were joined by a full band who stood on platforms surrounding the star, one member whose sole purpose was to clink a glass of red wine when the song mentions wine. Sudan Archives will be performing at the Winterland V Festival in Jacksonville, FL on February 25-26 and will be joining Caroline Polachek for a string of dates this spring. Get your tickets here: https://sudanarchives.com/Tour
