Geekery: Mixing Phish and The Dead

Mix Magazine has long been known as the world’s leading magazine for commercial and project studio recording, concert sound, audio for film and video and more; so we’re glad to see them give some love to two of our favorite bands in their latest issue – The Dead and Phish.

[Phish FOH Engineer Gary Brown]

Mix writers Donny Emerick and Joanne Zola  profile new Phish sound guy Garry Brown for an article that you don’t need to be an audio geek to appreciate, although it helps. For her article on The Dead, Sarah Benzuly chats with the band’s front-of-house engineer Derek Featherstone about the system he used for their spring tour. Featherstone and Brown both garnered high marks from fans who were used to rooms mixed by longtime band vets Paul Languedoc (Phish) and Dan Healy (GD).
