The Allman Brothers Band will play New York’s Beacon Theatre in late July in an effort to raise awareness about Hepatitis C.
Along with the announcement of the July 27 gig comes word that Gregg Allman will work with global pharmaceutical company Merck and the American Liver Foundation on a campaign dubbed “Tune In To Hep C.”
For Allman, the battle against Hepatitis C is a personal one, having suffered chronic bouts of Hepatitis C that eventually damaged his liver. Allman received a transplant one year ago this week. The Beacon show will take place on the eve of World Hepatitis Day.
“I’m excited to be working with Merck and the American Liver Foundation because there are many people who have been diagnosed with chronic Hepatitis C, but aren’t taking action,” Allman said in a statement. “I want to tell them, don’t wait. Doing nothing is not an option; they need to talk with their doctor.
“I made the decision to take action and talk to my doctor, so that I could get back to making the music I love. I want others to take action too, and if I can help make that happen, I’ve done my job.”
