Horror Movies To Revisit This Halloween – The Shining, Friday The 13th, Dracula

There have been many great horror movies released this year including Us, Midsommar, and It Chapter Two. Whether you are a fan of supernatural movies or slasher movies, there are plenty of horror films out there that you can experience. The month of October is the perfect opportunity to get involved in all things Halloween. Whether you are decorating your house with Halloween decorations or you are gambling on Halloween slot games, there are many great ways that you can celebrate the spooky season this Autumn. But which spooky horror movie should you watch this year? As we get closer and closer to the 31st of October, here are just some classic horror films that you can enjoy this Halloween: 

The Shining (1980)

For lovers of Stephen King novels, or the great Stanley Kubrick, The Shining is one classic horror film that you can enjoy this year. Set in the sinister Overlook Hotel, the Torrance family are isolated there for the winter when strange and horrific events start to occur. This classic film is full of suspense and terror and an incredible performance is delivered by Jack Nicholson who plays the main character Jack Torrance. As the character descends further and further into madness, his axe wielding stalking of his wife through the hotel is one of the most chilling moments in the film. His performance alone is something that might keep you up through the night after you have watched it! 

Classed as one of the greatest horror films ever made, The Shining is a perfect film to add to your watch list this Halloween. Fans of the shining can soon watch the sequel too with Doctor Sleep set to be released this Halloween starring Ewan McGregor as adult Danny Torrance. 

Friday the 13th (1980) 

As one of the most well-known horror movie franchises, when best to watch the first installment than on All Hallows’ Eve? Friday the 13th series has been a long-running horror franchise ever since the release of the first film, Friday the 13th, back in 1980. As the first film in the franchise, Friday the 13th started a franchise that would span twelve slasher films to date. While Jason Voorhees only appears momentarily in this film, it is his unbalanced mother who terrorizes the inhabitants of Camp Crystal Lake.

With film release after film release, over the years Jason has become one of the most iconic and recognizable movie villains of all time with his hockey mask. Many Halloween parties have at least one person dressed as Jason attending. On October the 31st, why not watch the first film that launched the popular horror film series? Grab your popcorn and get set for a thrilling ride!

Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)

One of the most popular icons for Halloween is Dracula. Head to the shops and you will find many Halloween decorations and costumes that are vampire-themed. Over the years there have been many vampire films released such as the action-packed Van Helsing (2004) and the classic Nosferatu (1922). Christopher Lee was also well-known for his fantastic role as Dracula in Hammer Horror movies such as Horror of Dracula (1958) and Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966). Another vampire film that is a must-watch movie this Halloween is Bram Stoker’s Dracula that was released in 1992. The fact that Francis Ford Coppola was sitting in the Director’s seat certainly did not harm the production when it came to the atmosphere. It is simply a visual feast. Dracula is played by Gary Oldman who brings an outstanding and powerful performance. 

The film also performed well at the Oscars and won three Academy Awards for Best Costume Design, Best Sound Effects Editing, and Best Makeup. Gary Oldman was also joined by other great actors including Winona Ryder, Keanu Reeves, and Anthony Hopkins. If you’re looking to watch more vampire movies this Halloween then Bram Stoker’s Dracula is certainly one that you must add to your list.
