WATCH: DOMi & JD Beck & Mac Demarco Jive Up “Two Shrimps” On ‘The Tonight Show’

If you pay attention to modern music in any capacity, the jazz duo of DOMi & JD BECK has been inescapable. Their debut album NOT TiGHT was released to wide critical acclaim and recently earned the young prodigy two Grammy nods. The duo has been touring and performing their modern twist on classic jazz structures all over TV, last night (November 30), that streak continued with a special guest. Mac DeMarco joined DOMi & JD BECK on The Tonight Show for a lovely rendition of the deep cut “Two Shrimps” from their stellar debut.

It was only a matter of time before these two became household names. Their melting pot of influences culminates itself into a refreshing take on classic jazz tropes, all with a youthful grin and playful song structure. NOT TiGHT is currently making its rounds onto just about everyone’s “Best albums of 2022” lists while the debut also earned them Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.

The band stayed very much on-brand by decorating The Tonight Show stage with neon-tinged floral arrangements that, despite their vibrant colors, couldn’t hold a candle to DeMarco’s swaying at center stage as he crooned through the track. The height of their performance came from the solos that have earned the duo so much praise. Beck tore through his time in the spotlight with his unprecedented sense of timing that created dense textures when put up against the gentle keys of DOMi dual piano set up, which spit out a high-octane solo in its own right.
