Yesterday, the music world lost one of rock’s most beloved voices when the news of Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie’s death was announced. The most heartbreaking delivery of the news came from her former band’s Twitter account who released a statement detailing their love for McVie. McVie’s presence continues to be felt through the songs she left behind and the unforgettable, prolific era she came up in.

A few minutes after yesterday’s post I learned the sad news about Christine McVie. So the request I had just made for well…requests… became a bit moot. It appears a lot of us had the same thought. I promise I’ll pick something else from the request pile in the future. But for now, since I couldn’t decide on which song to pay tribute to Christine with, I’m including a few.

I realized while recording these that Christine’s songs are the pop songs I’m thinking of when I say I try to write pop songs. I think it’d be more honest to say I’ve tried many times in my life to write a Christine McVie song. Which might sound ridiculous for a bunch of reasons. Most obviously because no one else but her ever could. Also, I guess I would profess to believe that you shouldn’t try to write a song that you think sounds like someone else. But that’s the bar I’ve been aiming for most of my life.

When you aim that high, chances are you’re going end up hitting something more interesting than just what’s easiest to hit. Like a lot of my favorite pop songwriters, I think, she was so good it was hard to not take her for granted. You know? Like a sky so clear and blue it never occurs to you that there might be someone to thank. But there is. So…Thank you, Christine McVie.

Lindsey Buckingham on social media..

“Christine McVie’s sudden passing is profoundly heartbreaking. “Not only were she and I part of the magical family of Fleetwood Mac, to me Christine was a musical comrade, a friend, a soul mate, a sister. For over four decades, we helped each other create a beautiful body of work and a lasting legacy that continues to resonate today. I feel very lucky to have known her. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on through that body of work and that legacy.”
