Very few acts can claim to be as groundbreaking as the country band known as Lavender Country. The group broke the stereotypes of country music with their 1973 self-titled album which is regarded as the first recording by an openly gay country artist. Today (October 31), frontman of Lavender Country Patrick Haggerty passed away at the age of 78.

Last night in the heart of Dallas, Texas, legendary metal heads Mercyful Fate brought their heart-pumping sonics to The Factory In Deep Ellum. This marks the start of the band’s first official North American tour since 1999, their first show back that year occurred in Germany back in June. The metal pioneers have had a turbulent history of dissolving and reforming but the original lineup from 1980 is back in full swing for their long-overdue visit to the states.
