50 Years Ago Today – Led Zeppelin Releases ‘Houses of The Holy’

50 years ago today (3/28/73), Led Zeppelin released their fifth studio LP Houses of the Holy. It is their first album composed of entirely original material and signified their first LP of more advanced production techniques as shown in “Rain Song” and “No Quarter.” The album brought new sounds to the table from the funky guitar of “The Crunge,” orchestral rock of “Dancing Days,” and the island flavors of “D’yer Mak’er.” This was Led Zeppelin’s final studio release on Atlantic Records before forming their own label, Swan Song Records. Check out Zeppelin performing “The Ocean” from House of the Holy live at MSG in 1973.
