50 years ago today (9/10/74), The New York Dolls split up for the first time. The influential American band formed in 1972 and made just two albums, the 1973 New York Dolls and 1974’s Too Much Too Soon. The New York Dolls were also notable for their flamboyant fashion and stage presence, which helped pave the way for future glam rock and punk bands. They wore androgynous clothing, makeup, and exuded a rebellious spirit that interested many a ‘curious 70s rocker and scared many ’70s mom or dad. Check out this live version from ’73 of “Jet Boy”..
