75 years ago today (8/20/49), the late Phil Lynott was born. The Irish musician was a founding member, the principal songwriter, lead vocalist, and bassist of Thin Lizzy and was the face and voice of the band during their most commercially successful era. After Thin Lizzy’s early success with “Whiskey in the Jar”, the band hit it big with such familiar anthems as “The Boys Are Back in Town”, “Jailbreak” and “Waiting for an Alibi.” Lynott died on 4th Jan 1986 of heart failure and pneumonia after being in a coma for eight days following a drug overdose. Watch Thin Lizzy at the height of their powers and bold dual guitar presentation live in ’78 at The Sydney Opera House.
