Happy 40th birthday Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie/The Postal Service (Watch “The New Year” Live ’03)

Happy 40th birthday to Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service who was born on 8/11/76. The Washington state native has recorded eight studio albums with Death Cab for Cutie, of which he serves as front man and chief songwriter. Of course his one album Give Up (2003) with The Postal Service (w/Jimmy Tamborello) scored big with ears as it is the second Sub Pop Records release to receive platinum certification, their best selling album since Nirvana’s Bleach and allowed the band to headline arenas, sheds and festivals during their 2013 summer reunion tour. With a quintessential emotional tone to his voice, Gibbard alomg with other contemporaries like Conor Oberst, have become sensitive indie/folk/rockers for their generation. Watch Death Cab for Cutie perform “The New Year” off 2003’s Transatlanticism on the old Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn.
