Happy 70th birthday today to guitarist, composer, and producer Nile Rodgers (born 9/19/52), who strikes his white Stratocaster with a fierce funky percussive stroke that has got people dancing for decades. From “Good Times” and “Le Freak” with Chic to David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” and Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” Rodgers has written his own rule book on a funk chord sequence that is entirely his own. Let’s watch Rodgers along with his badass drummer Tony Thompson and bassist Bernard Edwards lay down the groove on “Le Freak.”
