Tom Petty has revived his pre-Heartbreakers group Mudcrutch for a new album, and will mount a spring tour of California beginning Apr. 12 in Malibu. The lineup will consist of Petty, Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and keyboardist Benmont Tench as well as Tom Leadon and Randall Marsh.
The tour will hit Santa Cruz, Ventura and San Francisco before concluding with a four-night stand at the Troubadour in West Hollywood. Tickets go on sale Friday (March 21) to members of Petty’s Highway Companion Club, who will receive six album track downloads prior to street date.
The 14-track self-titled album, due April 29 via Reprise, is Mudcrutch’s first. A few songs from the band appeared on the 1995 Petty boxed set "Playback," including its version of the future Heartbreakers hit "Don’t Do Me Like That."
