Arguably the unsung hero of American rock and roll, Tommy Keene died at age 59 on November, 21st. Over the course of 12 albums, Keene hardly used anything more than guitars (acoustic and electric) bass, drums, voices and an occasional touch of keyboards on his own songs, he gained a cult following with his series of records that touched on power pop and new wave.
Keene released his ninth album in 2011and has worked with Bob Pollard from Guided By Voices, T-Bone Burnett, and Don Dixon. He most recently opened for Matthew Sweet, performing at Brighton Music Hall in Boston Sept. 16.
