Wanderland is a dup project rooted in making lush, seductive music, informed by their respective fields: Lead vocalist and composer Natalie Wildgoose is also a costume designer and visual artist, and producer and co-composer Matt Robinson specialize in improvised jazz piano and electronic synths.
On their debut single, “Soon,” Wanderland creates magical and mysterious sonic enchantment. A riveting tale for the critical mind, Wildgood’s voice is dynamic as she melodically burns her way into our hearts. Syncopated swells create a perpetual soundscape, pulsing and circulating through the auditory field that merges the swirling worlds of Dirty Projectors and Deerhoof.
“Whilst writing and recording the EP we inhabited a sort of mythological sonic world. Featuring processed massed vocals, swirling synths and improvised acoustic piano, as well as field recordings of waterfalls and other instrumental sounds from the wilderness. These were all then treated with distortion, drop-outs, sonic break-ups, along with other ethereal harmonic and lyrical moments.”
