Trey Anastasio (if you can find anyone else on the internet with the same name we’d like to know) sat in with Yim Yames and My Morning Jacket yesterday (March 2) on a trio of songs on the second night of My My Morning Jacket’s One Big Holiday at Moon Palace The Grand in Cancun, Mexico. This follows a string of sit-ins from artists that held the stage the previous week including Dave Matthews performing with Phish on February 24th.
Fans posted video to YouTube of MMJ and Trey, with James and Anastasio soloing together during the spacey section of the Rolling Stones’ Sticky Fingers rocker “Can’t You Hear Me Knockin’,” (last performed in its entirety by Phish on May 3, 1985).
“We’re so grateful to be here; we’re so honored that you’re all here,” James said. “This is just unbelievable … It feels so good to be back again with everybody. What a crazy time it’s been. What a crazy couple of years.”
Jim James and MMJ also welcomed Trey, who stood center stage and shared lead vocal duties with James, on a cover of Elton John’s “Rocket Man.
The musicians then performed a 12-minute version of MMJ fan-favorite “Magheetah” that electrified the crowd.
My Morning Jacket continues tonight with their “One Big Holiday” run of concerts in Riviera Maya, just south of Cancun, Mexico, which continues through March 5.
