Neil Young announced the May 6 release on vinyl and CD (U.S. and Canada vinyl release dates are June 3) of three albums from his Official Bootleg Series.
Royce Hall, 1971, comes from his January 30 solo acoustic performance on the UCLA campus, and Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 1971, also captures a solo acoustic show — the final of the “Don’t Be Denied” singer’s ‘71 tour — from Los Angeles.
The third release, Citizen Kane Jr., Blues (Live from the Bottom Line), is from Young’s 1974 New York City performance.
All three shows come from recordings that readily have been available to collectors for decades, and where “no (official) tape exists, the original bootleg has been restored and remastered to bring listeners the best audio experience possible,” a press release notes.
Replications of the artwork that originally appeared with the bootlegged LPs comprise each album’s cover, “lending each release that treasured collector’s vibe and conjuring the era they were first created in,” the release says.
Purchases of the albums made through the Neil Young Archives Greedy Hand Store include free hi-resolution audio downloads and are available to preorder here.
