WATCH: DOMi & JD Beck Bundle Up Jazz Colorful Set On NPR ‘Tiny Desk Concerts’

Coming off of their terrific debut album NOT TiGHT, the innovative jazz duo of DOMi & JD Beck was the latest act featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series. The famed series started back in 2008 with folk artist Laura Gibson and now has more than 800 concerts under its banner and has hosted acts spanning all genres.

After signing to the famous Blue Note Records and Anderson .Paak’s newly formed label Apeshit, Domi & JD Beck began releasing solo material only a few months back. Their debut album is a 15-song journey through their bright, colorful approach to jazz and features guest appearances from legends of the genre like Herbie Hancock and Kurt Rosenwinkel.

Domi & JD Beck tore through four tracks from NOT TiGHT amidst a bright floral arrangement much like on the cover of said album. They performed two of the three singles that lead up to the release of the album, the gentle “SMiLE” and the more drum-driven “WHATUP”. They then went into the title track from their debut which they noted was the first song they had ever written together and also features bass player Thundercat on the album version. The fourth song they performed is the jovial “U DON’T HAVE TO ROB ME”, which is the sole track from NOT TiGHT that features the duo taking vocal duty all by themselves.
