LISTEN: Empty Elles Unleash Slinky Anthemic Guitar Rock On “Bad Dream”

Montreal’s own Empty Elles was formed in Dave & Milie Simard’s garage in 2018 by  JR Bechard, who later teamed up with the  multi-instrumentalist/producer Max Legault and soundscape builder Phil Shawn to craft energetic songs that burst with life.”

Muffled lo-fi vocals, slightly absurdist lyrics, and catchy guitar riffs combine to form an endearing end-of-summer jam on Empty Elles’ latest single “Bad Dream”. “We all have bad dreams sometimes, but we get through” is a nice thing to be reminded of these days, especially when the mantra is sung over an anthemic 90’s indie-rock outro with plenty of Car Seat Headrest crunch and instantly hummable out guitarmonies.

“Phil sent me a couple of song ideas and the demo for this one stuck in my head immediately when I heard it. I couldn’t stop thinking about it until I wrote the rest of the song the next day. Something about the hopeful idleness of the lyrical theme mixed with the playful nature of the instrumentation made me feel like we had something special,” says Bechard.
