This past weekend (September 16) marked the inaugural Band Shirt Day. Band Shirt Day is a new annual tradition where artists from around the globe pledge to donate a portion of the profits from their online merch sales to a charitable organization of their choice. Some artists released exclusive t-shirts for the occasion while other acts decided to donate a net percentage of their total merch sales of the day.
The turnout of participating artists for the first annual Band Shirt Day is impressive. Acts like AJJ, Angel Olsen, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, Black Pumas, Mac Demarco, Blondie, and Say She She dedicated some of their merch profits to their favorite charities.
The new artist-driven initiative also teamed up with New York’s Indieplaza Festival that took place over the weekend. Band Shirt Day had interactive booths set up across Rockefeller Center for the weekend and teamed up with the likes of Rough Trade and Bandsintown to put everything together.
Some of these exclusive Band Shirt Day designs are still available on participating band’s merch websites. Check out some of the coolest shirt designs from the inaugural Band Shirt Day and learn more about the organization below:
