Los Velvets are an independent band straight out of the Sonoran-Arizona Desert, and are currently based in Tucson, Arizona. The band was formed as a recording project in 2020 during the pandemic by Fabian Ríos, Samuel Bencomo, and Alec André Ruvalcaba. With the addition of drummer Jorge Parker and multi-instrumentalist Nicole Paco, they started playing high-energy live shows from Nogales, MX to Phoenix, AZ.
Blowing in from the American Southwest high desert valley this October is the bilingual indie rock stunner “Isolation” from Los Velvets. Picking up influences from all across the country like a snowballing tumbleweed, Los Velvets is a rock and roll multicultural triumph that highlights the often taken-for-granted beauty of the melting pot. “Isolation” is the first single off their upcoming debut EP Azúcar y Miél.
“Isolation” was the first song we wrote off of “Azúcar y Miél.” It was also the first English song we ever made as a band, previous to this song we were only writing in Spanish. This song is what inspired the idea for us to make and push a bilingual EP. Growing up in the border town of Nogales, AZ. we constantly had to switch between, not only English and Spanish, but between two completely different cultures. The idea of a bilingual album felt fitting to us as a band, especially when the band is built up of members from both sides of the wall. We started playing “Isolation” live and people seemed to really like the song, without it we probably would have never thought about writing in English.
