Indie Jazz Duo sunking Announce New Album ‘Smug’ Out 11/18 Via Anti

The ever-evolving instrumental duo known as sunking is back with their second album and first full-length with their new label Anti Records, Smug is due out on November 18. The combination of drummer Bobby Granfelt and keyboardist Antoine Martel have been mastering the art of genre-bending since their debut, self-titled LP in 2019. After a string of loose singles and shorter projects, Smug is a highly anticipated release for modern jazz and hip-hop fans alike. Granfelt’s hypnotic drums and Martel’s natural knack for melodies combine for a refreshing take on instrumental music that breaks down barriers without sacrificing pure musicianship.

The announcement of Smug is accompanied by two very different sounding singles from the duo. “Bad Habits” is the drum heavy piece with flutes that sound like they were lifted out of a fairytale while “Glitch/Spy” has smooth horn sections that drive the first part of the song that soon melt into avant-garde, almost cartoonish sounding keys. The album will also feature both singles from sunking’s “My Mind Is An Oven” double single release from September of this year.

The duo of Granfelt and Martel have built a reputation for making left-field instrrumentals that are equal parts experimental and nostalgic. Check out the new singles below and get ready for Smug on November 18 via Anti Records.
