The Chairman Dances is an indie rock band based in Philadelphia, PA.  To make their albums, the group has worked with veterans Daniel Smith (mewithoutYou, Sufjan Stevens) and Joe Reinhart (Hop Along).  In 2019, songwriter Eric Krewson wrote what would become the band’s album The strength of your arm while serving as an artist-in-residence in Washington state’s Cascade Mountains. Performing regularly, The Chairman Dances has shared the stage with Ten Fé, Rhett Miller (Old 97s), Work Drugs, Kopecky, and Hey Marseilles.

On their latest single “Small Comforts”, The Chairman Dances brings a lively and densely layered song-poem to life through inventive arranging and masterful production. Bringing together elements of later Iron and Wine and the Dirty Projectors, “Small Comforts” polyrhythmic grooves and dramatic flourishes offer up plenty of new surprises for repeated listens.

The single “Small Comforts” was inspired by William Carlos Williams’ “To a Poor Old Woman”, a brief poem about the pleasures of eating plums. Using my own language, I reimagined Williams’ work, expanding its scope to include both the beauty and elusiveness of comfort, as well as our great need for it,” says Eric Krewson (songwriter/singer/instrumentalist)
