LISTEN: S.C.A.B. Brings Brooding Interpol Vibe To “Small Talk”

On “Small Talk”, NYC’s S.C.A.B. tackles the unavoidable and inevitable sense of grief and loss we’ll all feel at some point in our lives with a climactic and patient build full of fat bass tones and big roomy guitar layers. The slowly unfolding melody is pushed along just right by an expressive vocal delivery that skillfully adds depth as band builds around it. Their full length self-titled album is out Nov. 11.

“Small Talk” deals with grief and learning to support a friend going through a tough time. My father passed away of cancer a few years ago and my bandmate Alec recently lost a parent as well. The song touches on our bonding through such a difficult shared experience, wanting to connect and being there to support each other but not knowing how, often resorting to familiar, insignificant topics from fear of getting “too real,” says Sean Camargo (vocals/guitar).
