The crude and obscure career of GG Allin is set to be documented in a forthcoming biopic directed by Jonas Åkerlund. Åkerlund is also the director of the much-talked-about documentary on the 90’s Norwegian Black Metal Scene, Lords of Chaos. While information is limited about the freshly announced biopic, here is everything Glide was able to uncover about GG Allin: Live. Fast. Die.
Along with Åkerlund at the helm of it all, according to an article published by Stereogum, the film was written by Richard Schenkman who interviewed anyone who was close to Allin that is still around. It is also set to be produced by Don Murphy and Susan Monford of Angry Films and MVD Entertainment Group. The movie is set to focus on Allin’s off-color stage persona and his unfortunate passing due to a heroin overdose, along with exploring the man behind the persona and his everyday struggles with Bi-polar Disorder. According to a quote pulled from The Hollywood Reporter, the producers of the movie plan to tell the true story of Allin as “what happens to a borderline personality when the reach for fame exceeds the limits of talent… when substance abuse goes unchecked and mental illness undiagnosed and untreated… and when a fictional character takes over a real person’s life, driving GG beyond limits anyone could possibly endure.” The director also added to their quote saying “This is exactly the type of real and raw story I am looking for and this film explores the ugly belly of the beast and how Kevin Allin came to be GG,” said Åkerlund in a statement. “Punk was already a genre about pushing limits, expanding on musical genres and the definition of artistic expression. At a time when punk was thought to be dead, sold out or too raw to survive, GG came into the scene bleeding, pissing, and sinking like no punk before. Live. Fast. Die. is about a sick person who should have asked for help. GG’s strong persona was a gift, but this borderline personality disorder was not treated, and killed him”
While controversial, GG Allin is remembered as a beloved figure in the punk scene and his antics live on. There is no timeline as to when the film is set to be released so be on the lookout for any more news surrounding GG Allin: Live. Fast. Die.
