LISTEN: Thomas LaVine Evokes Early Bon Iver Echoey Sensibilities On “Crumble”

“Crumble”, the latest single from producer/songwriter Thomas LaVine expertly combines acoustic and electric sensibilities to create an engaging track that hearkens back to the folk roots of early Bon Iver. The organic instrumentation and airy arrangement combine with a nostalgia-inducing pop-centric melody that will put anybody in the mood for a hot mug of coffee on a grey winter day.

I consider Crumble to be the sister song to my previous release, “Giants”, which explores a carefree adolescence. “Crumble” confronts what happened when I left that adolescence and my struggle to find a firm footing anywhere that feels like home. I recorded it in my backyard studio, which is a shed that I converted into a recording space. There’s something I like about the idea that it was recorded in one of my favorite and most comfortable places, because I guess that’s
kind of ironic given the song’s subject. But I think that’s how life is, we aren’t just one singular thing that feels one singular way. There are facets, which is why I love thinking of this song as connected to another.
