LISTEN: Pheeno with CHOO CHOO Stir Up Clever Jazzy Pop Hooks On “And Then Some”

Led by interdisciplinary artist and musician Erica Enriquez, CHOO CHOO is a band primarily situated in the realm of indie rock, but draws influences from various genres such as hip-hop, R&B, jazz, antifolk and punk. Bound together by the energetic pocket of drummer Isaiah Hazzard, bassist Conner Duke, and secondary guitarist Peter Enriquez, CHOO CHOO invites you aboard but asks that you stand clear of the closing doors.

Pheeno is the name that Producer, Engineer, Songwriter, and Multi-Instrumentalist, Joseph Keenan has been making music under for the past decade. Joseph started the project in high school after a 2011 Bassnectar & Pretty Lights show in Atlanta inspired him to try his hand at electronic music. He went on to study music in college where the exposure to new artists opened Pheeno up to experimenting with other genres. In the same way, Joseph met Erica and the CHOO CHOO team through shared friends at Short Stack Studio in Brooklyn.

“And Then Some” leads one to believe that the collaboration between Pheno and CHOO CHOO should be something that should be explored further for future releases. Lo-fi and DIY grit is combined with a tight and deliberate set of musicians and composers who aren’t afraid to blend in unabashed pop hooks with an already extensive range of influences.
