One of Europe’s most exciting rock exports, Dutch psychedelic punk five-piece Iguana Death Cult, are making their triumphant return with the announcement of a forthcoming LP, Echo Palace (due May 12 via Innovative Leisure).

Written largely during the 2020 lock-down as documentation of that surreal chapter of their lives and as a form of therapy while dealing with the various states of mind they had been in during that time, the record’s strength lies in its existential, nostalgic, and heartfelt themes, expressed against the band’s trademark expansive, garage-rock sound. The end result is an appropriately worldly album from a group breaking past the confines of their home country (though, they still retain a sense of pride about being Dutch).

To introduce the upcoming LP, today, Iguana Death Cult is sharing its first single, “Sensory Overload,” alongside an accompanying music video. Chaotic, frenzied, and decked out with just the right amount of saxophone, this track will appeal to fans of Parquet Courts and Sleaford Mods.

Speaking on the new track, the band wrote:

“Scrolling up and down my feed, I literally feel like I’m traveling back and forth through space and time sometimes: since down is up and up is down and reality is starting to feel like a joke – which is making me very, very anxious. We wrote quite the jittery tune to compliment the manic lyrics which are more or less heavily distorted flutters of consciousness. To emphasize this, we asked saxophone legend Benjamin Herman to channel his inner James Chance and blow this song to pieces.”

Ahead of their forthcoming album release, Iguana Death Cult will make a return to the US with an appearance at this year’s SXSW (March 10 – March 19, 2023 in Austin, TX). In the meantime, listen to “Sensory Overload” and stay tuned for more from Iguana Death Cult, coming soon.
