boygeninus Kicks Off Tour at Pomona’s Fox Theare (RECAP)

From atop the mountain of praise for their official studio debut, the supergroup known as boygenius set off on their second official tour together. Last night (April 12), the trio of Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and Phoebe Bridgers took over the Fox Theater in Pomona, California for the first show of what is set to be a packed 2023 for the band. Their 2023 album, The Record, was released in late March and has already been praised as one of the best albums of the year by numerous publications. Although the rest of the tour doesn’t kick off until early June (full dates are posted below), last night’s setlist has brought the expectations of this run of shows to a fever pitch.

According to Setlist.fm, boygenius played every song they ever released under their supergroup’s moniker. The night was split up into three acts including an encore and saw the band pulling out every stop imaginable. The four acts bounced between 2023’s The Record and the band’s 2018 self-titled EP which doubled as their official debut as a band. The band kicked things off with a collection of songs from The Record like “$20” and “True Blue” while the remaining acts saw both of their releases sharing the spotlight.

Last night’s performance comes days ahead of boygenius performing at the globally-known Coachella Festival this weekend (April 14). The band will then take a short break leading up to June 2 when the band will then set out on the Re:Set Concert series where they will be joined by the likes of Clairo, Dijon, and Bartees Strange. 2023 will have boygenius on the road until late August with shows across North America, you can check out their full schedule below along with footage and the full setlist from last night’s Fox Theater performance below;
