Outside Lands (Day 3) Keeps On Hummin’ With The 1975, Beabadoobee, Megan Thee Stallion, Holly Humberstone (FESTIVAL REVIEW/PHOTOS)

The final day of Outside Lands’ 15th-anniversary festivities dawned with an eclectic mix of music on tap. For the early afternoon, the sun and blue skies prevailed, warming up those who arrived early. But as the evening came – like the two days prior – a layer of mist rolled into Golden Gate Park. High-energy sets from the likes of Megan Thee Stallion and The 1975 kept things hot despite the cool atmosphere. Here are four sets that stood out from Day 3:

Holly Humberstone

For attendees who arrived in the early afternoon at the Twin Peaks Stage, Holly Humberstone delivered a set that ramped up in energy and got the crowd in a groove. The English pop singer got the crowd bouncing at the start of “Falling Asleep at the Wheel,” which was propelled by the thump of a sturdy drum beat. Some of the last tracks of the show leaned into the stylings of late ’90s and early ’00s alt rock, with the driving guitar riffs and basslines of cuts like “Vanilla“ and “Scarlett“ ending the set on a high note with the crowd dancing and clapping along.

Beabadoobee

Beabadoobee masterfully performed a variety of vocals, from her guttural roar set to a skittering, speedy riff on the grungy “Charlie Brown” to her gentle croon on acoustic cut “See You Soon.” The singer adeptly played to the crowd, sending adoring fans into a frenzy with each smile and wave. She shined bright on “Last Day on Earth,” urging the audience’s call-and-response for each cheer of “yeah!” with an emphatic thrust of the microphone toward the crowd. And “Care” kept the energy up with its punchy guitar riff and Beabadoobee’s anthemic vocals.

Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion drew one of the most electric crowds of Day 3, with fans jumping along to her sultry rap hits and dance moves. A sea of waving hands greeted the Houston rapper on “Plan B,” and the crowd cheered wildly for her message of body positivity (“If you love your body the way it is, make some noise! If you love yourself the way you are, make some noise!”) that introduced the lively track “Body.” The last full song of the set, “Savage,” invoked a huge singalong in the crowd. With a few minutes left in the set, Megan Thee Stallion and her crew of backup dancers took a bow to a short bit of her anthemic hit “Girls in the Hood” to raucous cheers from the crowd, hungry for more.

The 1975

As the final night of Outside Lands wound down, The 1975 garnered a huge crowd at the Twin Peaks Stage. Set opener “Looking for Somebody (to Love)” got the audience grooving with its funky bassline, and the saxophone on “Happiness” had fans bobbing their arms in unison. Lead singer Matty Healy’s voice shined bright on the piano-driven ballad “Oh Caroline.” Elsewhere in the set, Healy seemed to embrace goblin mode, alternating between chain-smoking cigarettes and pulling hearty swigs from a flask while hunched over on “About You” – yet also unfailingly delivering that hearty croon.

The punchy drums and screaming guitar open that announced the arrival of “Robbers” got the crowd singing along, as Healy beckoned fans with an anthemic “Stay! Stay! Stay!” line. In one memorable moment that showcased Healy’s command over the crowd, on “The Sound,” he commanded: “Everybody is gonna jump on the count of four. One, two, three, four – fucking jump!” His wish was the fans’ command, as a sea of undulating bodies as far as the eye could see hopped in unison.
