In case you missed it, one of the strongest albums of 2023 was released this past April. In fact, it might very well be the top debut of 2023,
Paris-based trio Oracle Sisters released their cinematographic debut Hydranism which channels the psychedelic soul of late ‘60s/early ‘70s Beach Boys at their most weird and Fleet Foxes at their most orchestral. But listen more clearly and you get other sounds from the past and present unraveling as if M.Ward and Feist got together to mesh their eclectic yet sophisticated tastes. On the 37 minutes of Hydranism, there is something to place on the musical bulletin board for all of music’s golden eras, and this debut is certainly a stunner.

At the tail end of 2020, Oracle Sisters decamped to the island of Hydra, Greece to write and record Hydranism. Recorded over the course of two months, the acclaimed 11-track album reflects a world suspended in time between the future and the past, and embraces larger-than-life ballads, intimate folk songs and table-thumping rousers spun with the silk of poetic reveries. Having released two critically acclaimed EPs in Paris I and Paris II in 2020 and 2021 respectively, Hydranism has been years in the making, merging the band’s vast musical influences.
Glide is premiering the video for “Ruby on the Run” (below) shot on location in Morocco that lets listeners further in on the Oracle Sisters’ musical secret. The tune and video sparkle up the band’s international flair with its worldly rhythms and nods to the ’60s lounge and exotica.
