SONG PREMIERE: Portland OR Faithful Punk Rockers Mistons Bring It Fast & Furious On “Brikka Brakka Firecracker

“One, two three- let’s go!” is a familiar kickoff for punk bands and perhaps that calloff has never been more warranted for the return of Portland Oregon’s Mistons. With cryptic electricity and ferocious brevity, the band is as explosive as they are emotive.

Started by Sean Croghan (crackerbash, Moustache, Pynnacles) and Micah Kassell in 2017 the band drew inspiration from their musical heroes both near and far and included elements from both of their works as painters. Mining the idea of the post-modern folk form (punk rock, garage rock) and using simple structures to convey complex ideas. The Mistons self-released “World of Convenience” in 2021, recording at Halfling Studios with Adam Lee engineering and co-producing.

In the spring of 2022 they returned once again to Halfling, this time with good friend Scott Fox (crackerbash, Satans Pilgrims, Pynnacles) on bass and with Adam Lee once again engineering and taking on a more prominent role as producer, recording four new songs and a cover of the legendary Portland band, Wipers song “Wait a Minute “.

This grouping of songs is being released as a one-sided 12” featuring artwork from Croghan etched on side B, on Portland heavyweight label Nadine Records on November 17th of 2023. Glide is premiering “Brikka Brakka Firecracker” (below) off the 12″ which unleashes an anthemic punk punch that will leave an undeniable impression upon first listen.

“We spend so much energy creating boogie men in our collective imaginations; I wanted to start imagining new heroes for our times. After seeing Roselit Bone play and rereading some Chinook mythology I dreamt of a nonbinary superhero, flying up the Columbia River Gorge followed by an army of crows as the sun rose. Give ‘em a cartoon name and wham bam, that’s that. Myth building,” says Croghan
