Australia’s Amyl and the Sniffers brought another raucous and high-energy performance to Roadrunner in Boston this past Saturday, November 4th.. Their tight, one-hour set brought the audience to a state of euphoria almost immediately. Known for their wild antics and blistering live shows, the band did not disappoint. From the moment they stepped on stage, the energy in the room was undeniably electric, and it never waned throughout their entire set.
Opening with “Control”, a high-octane track that set the tone for the rest of the evening, lead singer Amy Taylor immediately captivated the audience with her electrifying stage presence. “Freaks” found her thrashing around the stage, engaging with the crowd, and performing with a raw, unapologetic intensity. Her unapologetically abrasive vocals were perfectly complemented by the ferocious guitar work of Dec Martens, and the rhythm section, consisting of Bryce Wilson on drums and Gus Romer on bass, which provided a solid foundation for the band’s frenetic sound.

Throughout the set, the band played a mix of songs from their catalog and their more recent release, ‘Comfort to Me’. The audience’s enthusiasm was palpable. Mosh pits erupted, crowd surfing kept security busy and a lone fan even managed to climb up on stage to dive into the crowd as fans were swept up in the frenzy of the music. Amyl and the Sniffers’ performance was a relentless onslaught of punk rock energy that left everyone drenched in sweat and grinning from ear to ear.
Highlights of the night included their performances of “Maggot” which had the entire crowd chanting along to the anthemic chorus. The fierce “Guided by Angels” only added fuel to fire. The song’s infectious melody and rebellious lyrics resonated with the audience, and it felt like a punk rock rallying cry. And their hit “Hertz” took it all over the top, much to the pleasure of those in attendance.

The band’s extended finale was a raucous affair, with the band being joined by members of openers Die Spitz and GYMSHORTS for a blistering rendition of “Some Mutts” that had the entire room jumping and shouting along. Amy’s charisma and attitude were infectious, and she frequently interacted with the fans, urging them to safely let loose and embrace the chaos of the moment. The band ended the night with the solemn “Knifey”, which was a fitting conclusion to a night of unbridled punk rock mayhem.
Amyl and the Sniffers’ performance at the Roadrunner in Boston was a wild and unforgettable experience. The band’s brazen punk rock ethos and Amy Taylor’s magnetic stage presence combined to create a show that left the audience buzzing with adrenaline. If you’re a fan of punk rock and you have the opportunity to see Amyl and the Sniffers live, don’t miss it.
