LISTEN: Babe Club Drops Alt-Pop Voal Joyousness On “Middle of Nowhere”

Charleston-based Babe Club is the brainchild of Jenna Desmond and Corey Campbell: the two met at College of Charleston, and quickly became collaborators. After graduating, Desmond and Campbell joined the Americana act Susto. While playing huge stages and big festivals all over the country, they began to carve out their own sound, ultimately landing on something dreamy, remote, and melancholic. In 2018, the two left Susto to forge their own way.

Check out the vocally intoxicating new single, “Middle of Nowhere” from Babe Club. In a spacious sonic world crafted with synth color and a tasteful guitar touch, Desmond evocatively releases poetic lyrics, capturing the moment with a singular voice. “Middle of Nowhere” is heavy at moments, though fun, with a sense of lightness all at once. A perfect balance or expressive artistry and relatable alt-pop joyousness.

“There’s something about the bittersweet nostalgia of being a musician. Maybe it’s just being human really. Sometimes you’re absolutely miserable, but then a couple years later you look back with a sweet reverence that maybe romanticizes the past a bit. But maybe it was actually beautiful and you couldn’t see it at the time. Now we’re in this aggressively stimulating digital space, and there’s an itch to get back into those raw spaces, back to the middle of nowhere.”
