The middle of January can be a cold, dark, and often brutal time of the year depending on your particular latitude, which naturally makes the pulverizing intensity of a band like Godflesh the perfect aural companion to suit the harshness of the season. Indeed, ever since their groundbreaking debut album Streetcleaner dropped way back in 1989, Godflesh has been steadily pumping out their grinding brand of uncompromising industrial/post-metal that never fails to pack a serious punch with a downright filthy groove to boot. The below live performance of “Shut Me Down” and “Carrion” from 2015’s Brutal Assault Festival finds the band delivering that aforementioned punch/groove in a delightfully devastating fashion. For just a two-piece, the crushing sound Godflesh can create live is truly impressive to behold, perfect for a Manic Monday in the dead of winter:
