The Early Swerve is the creative partnership of best mates Dave Mackinnon (music) and Essex Moorcroft (lyrics). Their unique sound is an eclectic mix ranging from Skiffle, Latin Jazz, film soundtracks, and 60’s British Invasion bands. The lyrics are darkly comic contemporary narratives, taking inspiration from shady local characters and barstool fables. When they first started, the band had a revolving door of local session musicians, before settling on their current live line-up. “We were like Steely Dan. If you lived local and were any good, you did time in the Swerve”. As a live act, they combine blistering vocal harmonies with a ragged skiffle aesthetic.
The Early Swerve is serving up a platter of bouncy melodies and infectious grooves on their debut single “We Take Our Time”. The undeniably infectious melodies harken back to the early days of the British Invasion while staying uniquely present and modern. The band combines their wide range of influences and honed sound for a single bursting with personality and swinging grooves. If “We Take Our Time” is our introduction to The Early Swerve, we’re getting an early look at a young exciting band just getting their foot in the door.
